How To Find A Good Training Course

Posted on November 11th, 2009 in Business by Paul Ryder

As a trainer myself, it saddens me to hear others say they have been on this training course or that training course and either say hey have not really got much out of it or they look at their feet and find reasons to justify the money they feel they have lost and a wasted day/s

Each and every trainer has their own skills and even the best trainers in the world can have off days, but when it continually happens it is more than likely that the trainer has sold their soul to the money aspect and has developed the “what can i get” rather than “what can i give” attitude

So here are 5 tips to look out for

1. Ideally speak to the trainer, if they say they are too busy or they will speak to you on the day/s be cautious! If they are “too” busy to speak to someone who is paying them money to spend a day with them, they may have that attitude in general and be “doing a job” rather than really being their with the people who want to learn

2. Check the price, don’t pay over the odds, but also ask why it is free (if it is) some training puts a very high price to trick people into thinking it must be great, many times this may just be good marketing and free events may just be somebody who doesn’t value their work.

3. Testimonials, any good trainer will have testimonials and i would encourage you to ask for them. Don’t accept the “Mrs Smith from London says……” or “Tom from Spain says thumbs up” these are usually made up. Look for names email contacts photos etc… and ask to speak to them ideally, if the trainer has changed somebody’s life that person is usually happy to speak to others about it.

4. NEVER be pressured by sales people, many sales people work on commision and care more about your money than your course. There are many soft sell and hard sell and contract signings flying about and you may get the “its only for today” rubbish. if you feel pressured…. avoid it!

5. Go with your gut, if it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it if it does… go for it!
