This mustn’t register on an emotional level
One of the most powerful quotes in recent media is from the new Sherlock holmes film starring Robert Downey jr and is the “This mustn’t register on an emotional level” in the scene where Downey Jr was in a bare fist fight for money.
However though before we go into the film scene, we need to look at the reason as to why he actually says that this must not register on an emotional level.
The scene opens as explained where Downey Jr is fighting, but then something happens and he wants to leave the fight, his aggressive opponent though has other intentions though and wants to continue the fight, Jr tries in vain to leave when his opponent tries to humiliate him by spitting at the back of his head.
At this scene the film time stop and we see Jr saying “This mustn’t register on an emotional level” …why? because in reality our emotions can become very erratic and therefore cause us to lose focus, liken to that of somebody drowning, who flails and flaps in a blind panic.
In a situation which we need to take action, panicking or being erratic is a guaranteed way to lose control. This is why in the film Downey Jr does not allow his opponents insult to go into the emotional mind and toy with ideas as “what does the crowd think of me?” “Am i good enough?” but instead he keeps his thoughts conscience and in his control of which in his emotional mind he would be the controlled (by his emotions.
Please watch the video below for this scene and watch him take action while remaining calm and focuses when it matters most, a highly valuable skill!
